Department of Biophysics:

The Department of Biophysics was established in 1958. The department provides information about how cellular and molecular processes give rise to complex physiological functions. The research department of biophysics emphasis is on understanding the etiology of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. The department of biophysics in NIMHANS offers M.Phil and Ph.D. courses

Department of Biostatistics:

The Department of Biostatistics was formed after realizing the scope of statistical methods in medical research in general and the development of psychometric and biometric methods. The department of biostatistics came with a focal point of providing statistical consultation and service to researchers, to impart training and academic teaching in biostatistical, computational and research methods. The department standardizes the collection of medical statistics and other relevant information at this institute.

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry:

In 1957 the Child Guidance Clinic was established in NIMHANS later in 1968 the Mental Retardation Clinic was established. The department continues to provide a high-quality level of service delivery in the inpatient and outpatient sections. The department has to be strong contributors to advocacy and activism in the area of child and adolescent.

Department of Clinical and Adolescent Clinical Neuro Sciences:

The Department of Clinical and Adolescent Clinical Neuro Sciences does major areas of research like dementia, Alzheimer's disease, Autism Spectrum Disorders, Brain Tumours, Epilepsy, Mitochondrial disorder, Movement disorders, Sleep disorders, and Traumatic Brain Injuries. After the inception of this department, there have been more than 50 scientific publications in the various peer-reviewed high impact national and international journal  

Department of Clinical Psychology:

The Department of Clinical Psychology was established in 1954. It's been the oldest department in the country to offer postgraduate training in clinical psychology. 

Department of Epidemiology:

The Department of Epidemiology was established in 1987. The department aims to build the gap between epidemiological understanding of mental, neurological, and substance use disorders, injuries, and non-communicable diseases. The department came into existence after realizing the importance of epidemiological inputs in mental health care systems and the delivery process.  

Department of Human Genetics:

The Department of Human Genetics was established in 1985 in NIMHANS. The department aims for better research and diagnosis of genetic disorders. Department activities include manpower development, teaching, and patient care. More than 100 undergraduate and postgraduate students have been trained on genetic and molecular research methodologies.

Department of Mental Health Education:

The department was founded in 1987. This department been an integral part of the institute and actively involved in teaching, research, and training activities in the field of health education. The Department of Mental Health Education is to prepare students, health care professionals, caregivers, and the community at large to promote health in individual and group settings.

Department of Neurochemistry:

The department is involved in diagnostics, research, and training. The Department of Neurochemistry provides basic information about fundamentals applied neurochemistry. Department offers high throughput mass spectrometry-based screening tests for inborn errors of metabolism. The department trains ph.D. students.

The NIMHANS Bangalore has spread over 25 acres of land which is situated in the heart of the garden city, Bangalore. The campus has huge collection of flora and fauna generous and exotic varieties of plants been preserved on the campus. And it been a place for many migratory birds. NIMHANS Research Center facilitating high quality and translatable research and providing leadership for national policy have been the hallmarks of NIMHANS. The research initiatives in NIMHANS have been inter-institutional and multi-disciplinary. Research areas like unraveling the molecular and sub-cellular mechanisms for the disease process, linking clinical status with structural, biochemical, and serological abnormalities searching for biomarkers.

The Research Center of NIMHANS Bangalore provides information about the genetic basis for disease causation and developing prognostic and clinical predictors and diagnostic inventory/ checklists. NIMHANS has Biomedical Engineering Section that is responsible for testing, repairing, and maintaining proper and safe operating conditions. NIMHANS Hostel Details:

NIMHANS Bangalore provides various infrastructure facilities. NIMHANS facilities include separate hostels for boys and girls. It also includes a hostel facility for staff and doctors. The hostel facilities include mess facility, study hall, the housekeeping staff for room cleaning, laundry facility, hot water facility, water purifier with RO Technology and 24/7 security facilities are provided to students and staff as well.

Cauvery Hostel:

The Cauvery hostel accommodation for female students from the non-medical stream doing their Ph.D., M.Phil, M.Sc or any other Diploma courses. Female Trainees from other Institutes who are visiting NIMHANS can apply for the Cauvery hostel stay.

Kabini Hostel:

Kabini hostel accommodation in this hostel is for Post-MBBS resident doctors and other medical doctors doing Ph.D. or postdoctoral fellowships. The hostel has 192 rooms in total but 32 rooms are provided as guest rooms. 

Men's Hostel:

The Men's and Staff hostel is situated near the administrative block of NIMHANS. Bonafide students of NIMHANS are eligible to seek admission to the men's and staff hostel. Research staff including senior research fellows, junior research fellows, and research officers working in projects approved by NIMHANS.

  • NIMHANS Admission 2024 Process

    NIMHANS Admission 2024 Process includes the following steps:

    1. Registration: Candidates need to register themselves on the official website of NIMHANS and fill in the application form.
    2. Application Fee: After filling in the application form, candidates have to pay the application fee through online mode using a debit/credit card or net banking.
    3. Admit Card: After successful registration and fee payment, candidates can download the admit card from the official website of NIMHANS.
    4. NIMHANS Online Entrance Test (NOE): Candidates who have applied for various courses at NIMHANS need to appear for the NOE. The exam is conducted in online mode and consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs).
    5. Interview: Candidates who clear the NOE are called for an interview, which is conducted in person at NIMHANS, Bangalore. The interview carries a weightage of 20%, and the remaining 80% weightage is given to the NOE score.
    6. Merit List: The final merit list is prepared based on the scores obtained in the NOE and the interview.
