The Consortium of National Law Universities with the aim of improving the standard of legal education in the country and justice system through legal education was established on 19th August, 2017 with its headquarters in NLSIU, Bengaluru and Prof. R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor as President and Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR, as Vice-President. The Consortium is intended to provide for better coordination amongst National Law Schools to achieve highest standards of legal education in the country. 21 National Law Universities have joined the Consortium as founder members.

On October 3, 2018, in keeping with the terms of MoU, Prof. R. Venkata Rao, Vice-Chancellor, NLSIU handed over the charge to Prof. Faizan Mustafa, Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR, as the President and Prof. V. Vijayakumar, Vice-Chancellor, NLIU, Bhopal, as Vice-President.

The objective of the Consortium is to lay down the highest standards of legal education for the member Universities and to make the Indian Law Schools comparable with the best International Institutions of legal education.
